Versailles BOE January meeting highlights

VERSAILLES--The Versailles Board of Education met in regular session on Jan. 15. Present were Board members Gwenn Barga, Angie Bruns, Ron Gehret, Tom Ording and Steve Ruhenkamp; Principals Roger McEldowney, Jeanne Osterfeld, and Brenda Braun; Denis Subler; Tom Subler; Mike and Emily Williams; Bruce Mikesell; Ken Moorman; Chad Winner; Mike Rutschilling; Damien Richard; Kyle Ahrens; Jordan Henry; Treasurer Alan Barga; and Superintendent Aaron Moran.

Commendations were extended to:

* Mike Rutschilling for being named Academic All-Ohio in football,

* the varsity boys basketball team for winning the second annual Versailles Holiday BBK Tournament, with Chad Winner, Damien Richard, and Kyle Ahrens being selected All-Tournament Team and Kyle Ahrens being named Tournament MVP, and

* Jordan Henry for placing 1st, Kaylee Eakins for placing 2nd, and Megan Hemmelgarn for placing 3rd at the Versailles Voice for Democracy Contest, with Jordan’s speech advancing to the Ohio VFW District 3 Contest.

Under items of action, the Board approved:

* to renew its membership with the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce for 2013 as a Class IX Non-Profit Organization with dues of $25,

* Adam Miller, Margie Treon, and Dena Wuebker as tutors for the 2012-2013 school year,

* Renee Hemmelgarn as a substitute teacher for the 2012-2013 school year,

* to hire Rachel James as a long-term part-time sub for Work & Family Life at Versailles High School for the 2012-2013 school year per long-term substitute salary schedule,

* to hire Fred Borchers for MD services of a special education student for the 2012-2013 school year, and

* to grant supplemental contracts to Mike Goubeaux (Head Girls Track Coach), Rob Winner (Head Boys Track Coach), Mechelle Heitkamp (Head Girls Softball Coach), and Mitch Hoying (Head Boys Baseball Coach) for the 2012-2013 school year.

During items of discussion, January was recognized as School Board Recognition Month. Superintendent Moran thanked all Board Members on behalf of the District for their services to the community.

The Village of Versailles Council would like to note academic accomplishments of the district on entrance signs to Village.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 19, 7 p.m., at the board office.
